Frequently Asked Questions
What even is a doula?
A doula is "a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to a mother before, during and shortly after childbirth to help her achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible." (www.DONA.org)

Research shows that people who use the support of a doula during labor and delivery are less likely to require medical intervention (pitocin, epidurals, etc.), are less likely to see their birth result in a c-section, and are far more likely to describe their birth experience in a positive light. Doulas provide constant support and encouragement throughout labor. And, according to the CDC, "doula-assisted mothers were four times less likely to have a low birth weight baby, two times less likely to experience a birth complication involving themselves or their baby, and significantly more likely to initiate breastfeeding."

Childbirth interventions and c-section rates are at an all-time high in the United States, even when the birthing person is perfectly healthy and has no medical concerns. This is due, in part, to understaffed hospitals and birth centers where care providers and labor & delivery nurses are stretched very thin. Because of this, people are starting to more frequently request the assistance of a doula at their birth to aid in the mental, emotional, and physical - well - labor of childbirth.

A doula's support extends beyond the birthing person to the support person/people in the room as well! I'll work with your birth partner to teach them how to best support your labor and delivery experience as well as answer any questions or concerns they might have throughout.
Who do I serve?
All means all, friends!
The Pink Haired Doula is a welcoming and affirming place for everyone. You are a valued person, which is why I ask for pronouns on the Contact page. It's not a required field, but it's important to me that my potential clients know they will be referred to as the proper gender(s) and by the correct names.
The Pink Haired Doula strives to be a safe place. Families come in all kinds of expressions and I'm here to support whatever that looks like for you! Your stories are yours to tell and I will protect that. In the birthing space, I will do everything I can to ensure you are treated with the dignity and respect you deserve.
The Pink Haired Doula is a comfortable place. I want your birth story to be full of fun, laughter, power, and beauty. I'm a little on the sweary side, a lot on the progressive side, and firmly planted on the inclusive side of life. If that sounds like you, you're in the right place.
